In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

In today's post I'd like to talk about insecurities and mocking/bullying in general. I feel like even though this topic is pretty common I find that it's rarely spoken about, and now after the stories I've heard and read I feel like maybe it's time to say something about it.

Let's face it - we all have insecurities. Perhaps not all but majority of us do. We may be insecure about our looks/appearance, our height, our size...it could be anything. You may be insecure about your financial status or your job. As humans we're subjected to fear and we doubt certain abilities of ours because we believe we aren't good enough, or that someone else could do better. Many times we girls (especially), we feel insecure about our appearance because society has conformed us to think that there is a "perfect" body we girls should achieve in order for us to look attractive or just 'pretty enough'. Isn't that just tragic?

In a world where everyone tells you to not care about anyone or anything AND just be yourself, we're constantly told and reminded we're not good enough, not pretty enough, not skinny enough, not smart enough, not perfect enough. This is a perfect expression of a paradox - it's like how we all know that no one is perfect and yet we still expect ourselves to be.

There are many kinds of people I despise in this world, and one is definitely the kind who mock others and bring them down by picking on their insecurities. By doing so, I don't know what they get in return - maybe an overwhelming sense of euphoria? Or superiority?
It's so ironic how some people rage at the slightest humiliation but have the insolence to pick on others at their free will. The other kind of people I despise are the ones that say something bad about a person so that it becomes a joke just for the sake of having a good laugh. What's the point in doing so, really? Does it make you feel better about your own insecurities? Does it actually make you feel good about yourself?

You know, in a world where you can be anything, please be kind. Words can always hurt more than anything else. You never know if the next thing you say would become a voice that will haunt someone for life. The world is already a cold and harsh place, but it can be filled with nice people. If you can't find one, then be one.
